Stephanie Whitehead

Conservator

Stephanie Whitehead is the Conservator at Historic St. Mary’s City. After receiving her BA in Classical Studies from Christopher Newport University, she began volunteering at Montpelier in their archaeology lab. There she fell in love with archaeological conservation as it combines her passion for both history and science. She pursued her career in the field by receiving an MSc in Conservation Practice at Cardiff University, focusing on archaeological metals.

Stephanie has volunteered/interned at various institutions, including Montpelier, Bolton Library and Museum, Pontypridd Museum, and the Newport Medieval Ship project. She is an active member of the American Institute for Conservation as well as a variety of other professional organizations and is eager to exchange information with colleagues at conferences, events, or via email. While her focus remains on conservation within our institution, she also has interests in accessibility, sustainability, and supporting collaborative efforts within the heritage field.
