Introduce your preschooler to the wonders of history and nature through stories, music, art, movement, and hands-on exploration. Each Lil Explorers session features a new seasonal theme designed to encourage curiosity, creativity, and discovery while exploring Historic St. Mary’s City’s unique living history sites.
Locations vary. Ages 3–5 with an accompanying adult. $4 per child / $3 members. One adult free. Includes full-day admission to the living history exhibits.
Fall Dates for Little Explorers:
September 9 – Apple Dapple (Visitor Center)
Celebrate the arrival of apple season with stories, crafts, and hands-on activities inspired by one of autumn’s favorite fruits. Little explorers will discover how apples have been enjoyed throughout history while learning through play.
September 23 – Weather Wonders (State House Bluff)
Look to the skies as we explore sunshine, wind, clouds, and rain through interactive games, simple science activities, and outdoor adventures. This program encourages young learners to observe the world around them while enjoying one of Historic St. Mary’s City’s most scenic locations.
October 7 – Nature Brushes (Tobacco Plantation)
Become an artist using nature as your inspiration! Children will gather natural materials and create colorful works of art while exploring the sights, textures, and colors of the fall season.
October 21 – Halloween (Visitor Center)
Celebrate Halloween with not-too-spooky stories, crafts, songs, and festive activities designed especially for preschoolers. Children are encouraged to wear their favorite costume for this fun-filled seasonal program.
November 4 – Silly Shadows (Visitor Center)
Discover the magic of light and shadow through playful experiments, storytelling, movement, and creative activities. Young explorers will investigate how shadows change throughout the day while having plenty of fun along the way.
