DIG! St. Mary’s Fort Excavation Experience

Overview
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to work on a real archaeological site? This full-day, hands-on excavation experience allows participants to dig and screen alongside professional archaeologists at the St. Mary’s Fort site at Historic St. Mary’s City. You’ll learn about archaeological methods, site safety, and how artifacts help us understand the past — all while contributing to active research.

Who can participate?
- All participants must be 18 years of age or older
When is the program offered?

Programs are held from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the following Saturdays:
- April 25, 2026
- May 9, 2026
- July 18, 2026
- August 22, 2026
- September 26, 2026
- October 24, 2026
Registration closes at 5:00 p.m. (EDT) on the Monday prior to each program date.

What is the cost?
- $95 per person
- $85 for HSMC Members
Your registration fee includes:
- A full-day excavation experience
- Lunch*
- Two complimentary admission tickets (for you and a guest) to visit Historic St. Mary’s City before the end of the visitation season
- A program keepsake
- A digital photo of you working on the site
